Croagh Patrick

Croagh Patrick, near the town of Westport, County Mayo, is Ireland's most important holy mountain. Originally a pagan site dedictaed to the harvest god, Crom Dubh, an annual Christian pilgrimage is held here on the last Sunday in July. The mountain has been associated with Saint Patrick since Christian times and he is supposed to have banished all the snakes from Ireland from this mountain.
